We ate breakfast at the hotel which had better waffles than the waffle house and they were even shaped like Texas! We drove through Oklahoma and up to Kansas. We spent the night in Kansas City at a hotel with a water park!!! The kids and adults really enjoyed the slides.

Hubby, "Z," and my sister hiked down about 1.5 miles into the canyon on the "Bright Angel Trail." They had a nice time. The rest of us took a shuttle out west. I didn't think "E" would be up to serious hiking after her bout with the stomach flu. We hiked along the rim and got some great pictures.
We met up after lunch and took the shuttle out to the West and stopped at several points along the way. It is amazing to see all the different ways the canyon can look.
We also had a huge elk herd come through our campground, literally across the road from our campsite. There were probably 30+ elk, including one huge buck with a huge rack. We also saw a stellar jay, dessert spiny lizard. We also got to watch the sunset.

We woke up to our first day at the Grand Canyon and discovered that the Grand Canyon had a lot of bees that seem to like the dead bugs on our van and the dish washing sink. We also found out that there are lots of Ravens that are basically flying rats and eat anything!
Mike headed off to Flagstaff to get the brakes on the van checked out since they were making some horrible noises! The rest of us set off to do our laundry at the camper services building, we took a rather scenic route back, but were never lost--of course. We also figured out how to ride the Grand Canyon Buses, we rode a bit further than we planned, but got to see more of the park that way. :o) We god to see the Grand Canyon at dusk and even saw our first tarantula--YUCK!!! We ended the night with smores around the campfire.

We started off the morning enjoying the scenery around the KOA and saw the obligatory KOA bunny (we saw one at every KOA :o)).
We then went to Arches National Park.
We also saw a couple of large lizards, we drove through Kaibob National Forest and then reached the Grand Canyon, and saw 10 Elk near the entrance of the park!!!

On Tuesday morning, we spent part of the morning in Estes Park, CO taking pics and walking around. The kids found a playground.
We then drove through the Rocky Mountain National Park where we saw Elk, the Alpine Tundra, Lava Cliffs, reached the highest point of 12, 183 feet, saw the continental divide and the beginnings of the Colorado River. We reached Moab, Utah where we stayed at a KOA.

Travels so far...Saturday and Sunday--Sept. 25-26
We left our home on Saturday morning after literally stuffing everything except the cooler and grill into the van. These were to ride on one of those shelf gadgets that go into your hitch. Oh yeah, we also had the car top carrier on top with the kids luggage squished into it! We set off to pick up my sister, but quickly realized the shelf that held the cooler was not going to work out since it was scraping every time we hit a bump!!! We went and got our small trailer, put the cooler and car top carrier on it and finally headed out of town!!
God has been good, He has kept us safe and reminded us often of His handiwork.
Saturday took us through Minnesota into the badlands of South Dakota and some of the Black Hills.
Sunday, we saw Mount Rushmore, the Black Hills National Forest, and Crazy Horse. We were also blessed to find two good churches to go to.
Monday, we started the day bright and early with a Buffalo Round Up at Custer State Park--where we also saw prairie dogs--a couple villages of them, wild turkey, wild donkeys, and antelope. The Round up was a lot of fun. We saw the Buffalo in their natural habitat and then watched the Cowboys round them up and stampeded them into the corrals. This was a bonus because we had no idea this was even going on until we got to the campground on Sunday! We also got to see the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands and mountains in Wyoming and ended the day in the Rocky Mountains driving through the Roosevelt National Forest! We stayed at a KOA in Estes Park, CO after driving through Fort Collins. I never cease to be amazed at the many beautiful things God created. We have already seen so many different landscapes and we are only on Day 3!
Stay tuned for more updates. I am not sure how often we will have an internet connection!

Finish of Recap of vacation
On July 4th weekend, we drove about two hours to my second cousin's house. My sister met us there!!! :o) :o) Ruth is my grandpa's brother's daughter. She is older than some of my grandpa's sisters. I learned more about my grandpa's immediate family. It was interesting. She scrapbooks and her sister researches geneology. I also got to see pictures of my dad as a boy and hear about their trips to see my grandparents and how much they enjoyed it.
We basically relaxed and caught up on old times. We also got to see the church my Great Uncle did all the stone work on and pastored. Played Scrabble and was utterly KILLED. She can make three words at a time instead of just one!!! I knew I was in trouble when she gave me a list of ALL the possible two and three letter words!!! Unfortunately, the two letter words I wanted to make were never on the list!!! I seem to have ALL letters, or ALL vowels, they don't play well together for me. I did manage to win at Chicken Foot, a domino game.
The kids or Aunt Molly found a wounded butterfly that the kids enjoyed holding and trying to feed. We went to her church on Sunday and then to a nursing home to sing. They also had an Italian themed pot luck.
On Monday morning we went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. YUM, YUM!!!
Then we headed back to IL, picked up my mom and headed home on Tuesday.

Recap
I apologize for not posting much, but it has been busy since we returned from our trip and my mom is here.
To recap our trip, I picked the kids up at Camp on Saturday, June 27th, then headed to IL. The kids got to use their DVD player they got for Christmas for the first time. I'm amazed to be able to say we got it to work just fine WITHOUT Daddy along! Of course, I did have Timothy. We went to a friend's house in IL (hopefully they are still friends after I invaded them with four kids and four loads of laundry to do before Sunday morning when we had to leave for TN--Thanks Pam and Brian!) I got to go see my mom's new house.
We left Sunday morning, leaving behind "Z" with mom. Mike and I had found a church about 1 1/2 hours away that would put us a bit on the way to TN. When I got the "Harvest Baptist Church" the building had obviously been deserted for awhile and now read "arvest aptist Church". I went to a gas station and found another Baptist church. The kids learned about Christian rock music, unfortunately first hand. They realized it was wrong right away, thanks to Mr. Doyle Robertson. We arrived safely in Murfreesboro, TN. We went to McDonalds so the kids could play in the outdoor playland. We bought five icecream cones and a cheeseburger for $4.12! We went to church at Franklin Road Baptist Church. It was a great patriotic service. David Gibbs of the Christian Law Association was the speaker. We went to the Bill Rice Ranch after church. I always feel a little like I've come home when I go to the Ranch. Some things have changed since I was last there about 7 years ago, but it is still the same in many ways, especially the most important--their standards and preaching! It is so nice to go somewhere and see that they are standing by the Word of God and not compromising!!!
The camp week was relatively uneventful. A few bumps and scrapes and creepy crawlies to deal with, but overall a good week. I'm so thankful the Lord answered my prayers in this regard. The most excitement was provided by "T" who was knocked out for a few seconds by accident playing basketball. He was fine, though.
The kids and I did get to go on a Cowboy Cookout. The preaching was great. I enjoyed meeting old friends and making some new ones.
I'll probably post more later about the weekend. The clock is running away from me! :o)
